Currently, “The Voice” is in its 15th season and since it launched in 2011, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have remained fixtures as two of the show’s four coaches. This longevity has allowed a friendship to grow between the two singers, particularly given that the other two chairs have seen a lot of different coaches over the years.
This friendship was hilariously demonstrated on October 8, after contestant, Kirk Jay, completed his (amazing) blind audition.

Kirk, the 22-year-old Alabama native, has been singing since he was only 5-years-old. Growing up in the south gave him a love and appreciation for country music, which inspired him to pick the first country song he ever heard, “Bless the Broke Road” by Rascal Flatts, as his blind audition song for “The Voice”.
As soon as he hit his first note, Blake was intrigued, and it didn’t take long for the coach to turn his chair around. Adam followed suit not long after. Then Season 15’s newest coaches (and real-life reality singing competition winners) Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson finally turned around at the very end.

Once he finished his song, Kirk received a roar of applause from the audience, and all four coaches. Then, the fun (and drama) began.
Adam told Kirk that he should really “only consider” the two veteran coaches. He explained his reasoning by saying, “because these other two – I can’t”, which was met with disbelief from Kelly and Jennifer. Adam did lighten the mood a little when he joked that Kirk’s voice sounded like “Cee-Lo [Green] and Blake made a country baby”, which led Blake to open his arms for a hug as he said, “It’s good to meet you, son.”

Kelly didn’t let Adam’s comedic relief distract her, though, because she clearly wanted Kirk to consider her as his coach. When she asked him what kind of record he wanted to record, he said, “Country ’til the day I die.” Knowing Blake was the obvious choice, Kelly began listing off all the country musicians she’s worked with over the years, and pointed out that she, too, has been on country radio stations.
Meanwhile, Adam kept encouraging Kirk to team up with Blake – since he is a country musician after all. Blake was overwhelmed with gratitude for Adam, and paused the coach-feud to give his longtime friend a kiss. (These guys really know how to make good TV)

Adam and Blake continued to torment poor Kelly, and were even visibly shaking from laughter. At this point, Jennifer put an end to the madness, and asked Kirk who he wanted to pick for his coach, while Kelly made a final plea for him to “shock us all”.
