High School Seniors Get Surprised With Epic Ski Lift Graduation Ceremony.

Across the country, high schools have been coming up with creative ways to celebrate their graduating seniors while adhering to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.

The staff at Kennett High School in Conway, New Hampshire, realized they could use their state’s gorgeous natural landscape to create a unique commencement ceremony – on a ski lift!

Not only is Conway home to the high school, but it also hosts Cranmore Mountain Resort, where visitors often go to ski. When principal Kevin Carpenter realized his students wouldn’t be able to walk across a typical stage, he teamed up with Ben Wilcox, the resort’s president and a Kennett alum, to arrange an unforgettable celebration.

Using the ski lift, they were able to hold a ceremony at the base of Cranmore Mountain. Students rode down to safely collect their diplomas, while their families watched and cheered them on. The seniors were delighted!

“So many of them thought it was going to be a virtual ceremony or no ceremony,” Kevin told GMA. “But to have an in-person ceremony and something so unique, they’re excited about it.”

“This is honestly probably a cooler way to graduate than just walking across a stage,” said Sophie Stimpson, one of the seniors.

She was right! By the end of the day, all 174 of them got a one-of-a-kind experience – and the perfect backdrop for some gorgeous commemorative portraits!

The class of 2020 missed out on so many milestones this year, so we love seeing schools go the extra mile to honor them! While these students didn’t have the usual high school graduation experience, this was certainly a celebration they will never forget. Great idea, Kevin!
