Marilyn Monroe is a Hollywood icon. More than 60 years after she passed away at age 36, people continue to work to keep her memory alive. Marilyn purchased a home at 12305 Fifth Helena Drive in Los Angeles in1962. She tragically passed away inside the home not long after. The current owners of the home, Brinah Milstein and Roy Bank, have been in a legal battle with the city to tear down the home, but a judge blocked the demolition from happening.

Marilyn Monroe’s Home is Considered a Historic-Cultural Monument
According to court documents obtained by People, U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson dismissed the couple’s bid to have Marilyn Monroe’s former home’s designation as a Historic-Cultural Monument removed. Per court proceedings, the couple claims the home’s value has diminished by more than 90% and is in disrepair. They reportedly purchased the home in 2023 with the intent of tearing it
“While we are disappointed by the court’s decision to dismiss, this is not the end of the road,” Dave Breemer, senior attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation, who is representing the couple, told People. “The facts show the significant burden Los Angeles has placed on Milstein and Bank’s property, and we are prepared to continue fighting to protect their property rights on appeal.”
This is the couple’s second attempt to have the designation removed. The same judge dismissed a similar lawsuit earlier this year. For now, the home will remain in their possession, but cannot be demolished or renovated further.
