Many people have a hard time believing in themselves, and as such, struggle to reach their full potential. Joseph Allan, on the other hand, has no such qualms about chasing his dreams.
The 21-year-old from Texas is a child of divorce and the youngest of 12 siblings, but says the support from his “blended” family is the reason he accomplishes everything he sets his mind to. From motocross to singing, songwriting, and producing original music, all the college student needs is the desire to achieve greatness.

Having been blessed with such a positive mindset, it’s no wonder that when he auditioned for “America’s Got Talent,” Joseph showed no hint of self-doubt. In fact, one section of the audience, filled with his classmates from Phoenix, Arizona, began cheering the second he stepped out on stage. Judge Simon Cowell later commented that Joseph received the “best reaction for doing nothing” on the show.

When asked why he decided to compete this year, Joseph said, “I see myself as being someone who can make a major impact in the world and I just want to see how much of a footprint I can leave on earth before I leave.”

He certainly left a footprint on the judges and the entire audience with an original song written specifically for the occasion. Joseph’s performance featured a mix of soul and rap with a theme true to his character: believing in yourself. He also peppered the lyrics with amusing observations about his AGT experience, such as “up close, Simon looks just like a teddy bear.”
“After today, the world’s gonna know my name,” Joseph sang. And he was right.

Not only does the young man have a very pleasant, clear singing voice, but his effervescence is infectious. He had the audience on their feet in seconds, cheering, dancing, and waving along to the beat.

Their overwhelmingly positive response moved him so much that he broke down just as he finished, falling to the floor in tears.

The judges only had praise for Joseph. Simon called the audition “astonishing,” while Julianne Hough told Joseph he was “so good.”
Gabrielle Union added, “Listen, dreams come true on this stage. And I think we’re seeing your dream come true.”
“You want to leave a footprint,” Howie Mandel enthused as he climbed atop the judges’ table, the audience growing wild. “Well, I’m gonna give you the footprint you need to leave!” Then he stomped on the Golden Buzzer, sending Joseph straight through to the semi-finals!

Joseph held his arms up in victory as host Terry Crews carried him across the stage. Once again, Joseph did it – just like he knew he would.

There are so many things to love about this inspiring young man, but if we had to pick one, it would be his amazing attitude. We’d all be so lucky to see the world (and ourselves) the way he does. Good luck, Joseph!
