Jon, who is a dad to four to sons Jesse, 29, Jake, 22, and Romeo, 20, and daughter, Stephanie, 31, visited the Father’s Day installment of Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist on June 16th and chatted about his new single, Kiss the Bride. As the title suggests, the lyrics were inspired by Stephanie’s engagement.

The Grammy winner admitted that he’s been struggling to accept that Stephanie’s husband will be taking his place as “number one,” and he used the song as a way of processing his feelings.

“’I wish that this walk down the aisle was 1,000 miles’ because now I have to put this into perspective,” he said. “She’s going out to buy a wedding dress, and I’m not going to be number one anymore.”

Jon Bon Jovi Was “Crying” Throughout the Entire Songwriting Process

Jon Bon Jovi co-wrote Kiss the Bride with his “dear friend,” Billy Falcon. The entire experience was overwhelmingly emotional, and he still hasn’t sat down to talk about it with his daughter.

“I was crying when we were writing it,” he continued. “And I was crying in the studio singing it. and (Stephanie) is the last person on Earth to have heard it.”

Jon recently watched his son, Jake, walk down the aisle with his new wife, Millie Bobby Brown. But he admitted that giving his daughter away will feel a little different.

“Because it’s my baby, you know?” he told ET earlier this month. “The boys are the boys. They are married to some wonderful girls that we’re considering members of our family now, but Steph was the first baby. And Steph was also the band’s first baby.”
