4-Yr-Old Tells Mirror Everything She Loves About Herself & We Can All Learn From Her!

When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see? When Jessica Chatfield of Dallas, Texas was four years old, the answer to that question was simple: she liked everything she saw!

Jessica’s dad, David Chatfield, took a video of the curly-haired little girl after her bath one evening. In the video, Jessica, clad in pajamas, is standing on the bathroom counter, exuberantly listing off all of the wonderful things to love about being Jessica Chatfield.

There are so many things to love!

“My whole house is great! I can do anything good. I like my school. I like anything! I like my dad. I like my cousins. I like my aunts. I like my Allisons. I like my mom. I like my sisters. I like my dad. I like my hair!”

Jessica’s attitude of gratitude is truly beautiful to behold! She’s so full of light and joy in the clip, it’s impossible not to grin at the precocious little mop-topped child who is brimming with self-love and joie de vivre. We could all take a few pages from this child’s book!

David recorded the scene on a DiGi8 tape recorder in 2001, but it wasn’t until 2009 that he uploaded the adorably positive clip to YouTube. “I couldn’t watch it without smiling,”David said.

He explained that he originally uploaded the old video to enter a contest to win an Amazon gift card. While he didn’t win the prize, the family eventually won the ultimate internet honor: they went viral.

Months after David uploaded the clip, the family was shocked to discover that their modest video had gone from about a thousand views to over two million, seemingly overnight!

These days, Jessica (above, right) goes by Jess. She’s a college student at Southern Methodist University, where she studies Political Science and Business Management. And though her days as an internet starlet are long behind her, she is still well known for her positive outlook and sunny disposition. In fact, when asked how she likes her life these days, not much has changed from the days when she was showing us all what “happy” really looks like.

“I like my friends and family,”she said. “I like my school. I like my clothes. I like my shoes – oh no, this sounds so vapid! I like my books. I like my house. I like my sorority. I like my hair….”

Let’s all try to be more like Jess and love ourselves, flaws and all!
