Richard Sterban Helped Launch The Oak Ridge Boys’ Career
William Lee Golden shared a story about Richard Sterban and the success of Elvira with Dillon Weldon. The band recorded the song in 1981, but it had been covered by several other artists for 16 years before the Oak Ridge Boys made it a hit.
“That changed everything for us,” William said. “We never had a song before, or since, that impacted people like that song.”
Richard’s rendition of the um-poppa-um-poppa, mow, mow set the song apart from anyone else who recorded Elvira and made history for the band.
As the news of Richard Sterban’s health spread, many fans shared prayers and love for their favorite deep voice. Richard thanked them in a Facebook post on the Oak Ridge Boys’ page.
“I want to thank everyone, especially the fans, for your concern, and I would appreciate your continued prayers. Most days I’m feeling very good, and I hope to be back out on the road in several months,” Richard Sterbanshared.
“Keep the faith Richard. My husband was a pancreas survivor. Lived 13 more years after surgery to remove part of his pancreas,” a fan shared.
“Continuing to send prayers for you Richard, your family and friends on your healing journey,” another person prayed. “Hope to see you on the road again soon!”
