A hospice nurse in the UK has garnered international attention after a video of her singing and playing piano went viral. In the video, Emma Young sits at a piano in St. Helena Hospice and plays Make You Feel My Love. Her beautiful singing and playing– combined with the touching lyrics– moved workers, patients, and now the world.

Make You Feel My Love has been covered by many of the world’s best musicians. The song was written by Bob Dylan, originally released by Billy Joel, and since then has been covered by Garth Brooks, Kelly Clarkson, Adele, and now Nurse Emma. Clearly the poetic lyrics and simple melody resonate with artists and listeners alike.

Her performance was also completely impromptu. A coworker captured the video which was later posted to the hospice’s Facebook with this caption: “One of our Assistant Nurses, Emma Young, revealed her hidden talent this afternoon and filled our Inpatient Unit in Highwoods with beautiful melodies. She really brought a smile to everyone’s faces on such a beautiful Friday!” In a comment, St. Helena Hospice added, “We feel very lucky to have such a talented, kind, caring and hardworking staff working for the charity!”

The hospice cares for dying patients– providing “care, not cure” services at no cost.

Nurse Emma’s use of her talents to bless those around her truly moved us, and it has clearly touched many others as the video of her song has thousands of views!
