Homeowner Finds 136-Yr-Old Message In A Bottle Beneath her Floorboards.

A historic note from the 1800s found inside a home.

An Edinburgh mother was shocked to find a note from the past in a whiskey bottle hidden inside her home! Eilidh Stimpson was having some work done in the house when the plumber, Peter Allan, made an intriguing discovery. As he was cutting into the floor, he found a strange message in a bottle beneath the boards. Eilidh couldn’t wait to find out what was inside the letter!

Although the suspense was killing her, this thoughtful mom waited until her family came home to open the time capsule. Unfortunately, they had to break the whiskey bottle in order to get to the note. However, it was worth it — the message inside was from October 6, 1887. This means it had been under the floorboards for well over 100 years!

“James Ritchie and John Grieve laid this floor, but they did not drink the whisky,” read the mysterious message, according to Metro. “Whoever finds this bottle may think our dust is blowing along the road.”

Eilidh shared the fascinating find on Facebook, where she called it “a little piece of history.” However, there was even more to be discovered about the note in the whiskey bottle! With help from a friend, the mom of two found out that a James Ritchie and a John Grieve had actually lived in the area in the 1880s.

We’re not sure why James and John left their cryptic note inside a whiskey bottle under the floor, but it certainly made Eilidh’s day. What a cool connection to the past!
