Costco shoppers are known for going all out and dropping entire paychecks at their favorite big-box chain. But apparently, that’s not true.

According to the data collection agency Numerator, in 2025, the average Costco member visited the store around 33 times, and they each dropped a total of $3,213 over the year. That means they spent less than $100 a trip. That report shows a slight uptick in spending. Each shopper visited an average of 30 times in 2024 and spent a total of $3,018.
The surprising amount doesn’t spell financial disaster for the company, however. Costco has been thriving for over a decade. Statista reported that in 2014, there were only 76.4 million paying members. In 2025, that number jumped to 145.2 million. There are three levels of membership, too. Gold and Business members pay $65 a year, and Executive members pay $130 annually.
Costco’s Revenue Has Skyrocketed
Memberships alone brought more than $5.3 billion from September 2024 to August 2025. But overall, the company reported a total revenue of $275.2 billion.
The reason Costco is faring well in the turbulent economy is likely due to shoppers’ respect and loyalty to the company. Members have often praised the company for treating employees so well. Entry-level employees often start between $15.73 and $20 an hour, and last January, it hiked hourly pay up to $32 an hour for clerks. It also closes all stores for all seven major U.S. holidays.
Costco also values its customers and keeps prices low. In fact, the store’s famous hot dog combo, which includes an all-beef hot dog and a 20-ounce drink with free refills, only costs $1.50. That price was set in 1985, and founder Jim Sinegal refuses to charge more.
