Professor Dewington is a white pigeon. He found his forever home by landing in the yard of people who care. They noted his beautiful coloring and docile behavior. Since there are many cats in the neighborhood, the couple offered the little pigeon a box. He immediately took up residence. It’s been a couple months now and Dewi is a part of their family. Their next goal is to harness train the pigeon to keep him safe.

After bathing and caring for the injured pigeon and researching their needs, they got Dewi a harness. Although he didn’t take to it immediately, it wasn’t long before he was off on his first adventure. At the moment, Dewi is unable to fly. He hops and gets some lift to move from point to point, but open-air flying is a no-go.
At some time in Dewi’s past, he suffered a broken wing that is either still healing or healed incorrectly. That affects his ability to fly. The fact that he has been adopted means he has a chance at a great life. He would not have that opportunity in the wild. The little bird may realize that. He looks pretty content with his pet humans.
Dewi is now a pro and looks the part of a proud pigeon as he parades around town in his harness. When he gets tired, his Dad picks him up to carry him.
We’re learning more about pigeons and realizing what an amazing species of bird they are. Considered a nuisance in many communities, some people are working to raise awareness. One of those people in Melbourne, Australia, takes care of flocks of feral pigeons.
