Guess Hoo Was Found In This Family’s Christmas Tree?

There’s lots to love about the holiday season, but my favorite has to be carrying on beloved traditions. For Michele White, that includes choosing a Christmas tree with her family. Typically, this tradition goes off without a hitch but, this year, their choice included an unexpected guest. More specifically, there was an undetected owl in their family Christmas tree.

You might be wondering: How did they not notice a bird in the tree? Well, turns out, Michele and her family have been asking themselves that very question. All they know is that, somehow, this tiny owl managed to stay quiet and hidden for four whole days once it was in their home.

“I have three dogs,” Michele said. “We use this room nonstop: watch TV; the kitchen’s right here; no indication.”

In fact, the White family didn’t find the fowl themselves. While they were away, folks from Magic Carpet Cleaning serviced their home. Bobby Hayes, the owner, noticed branches moving, prompting him to investigate. There, he saw the owl.

Owl Discovered in Family Christmas Tree

“It crawled up into the tree further,” Bobby said. “It took me several minutes to even find it.”

Once the owl was in his grasp, Bobby sent a photo to Michele. At first, she thought he was joking around and had a stuffed animal. She called him immediately for confirmation, shocked to find out he was serious.

With the owl discovered, there’s lots to be grateful for — first, of course, is the fact that this sweet bird is now back out in the wild where they belong. But also, Michele is grateful that Bobby was the one who discovered the owl inside her family Christmas tree. She has a feeling she wouldn’t have been as calm about the discovery.

“I would have left the house,” Michele explained. “The owl could’ve stayed without me. I wasn’t coming home.”
