We’ve told you before about the dangers of flooding; we’ve even told you, specifically about how animals can be left stranded after severe weather. After Storm Desmond blew through Killorglin, Ireland, many animals were left behind by owners who had to flee for safety. Farm animals were especially at risk since they’re so large and difficult to transport.

One donkey had escaped from his paddock and became stranded outside the town in the flood. Suzanne Gibbins, from The Animal Heaven Animal Rescue, received a concerned call about the trapped donkey and sprang into action! When she saw that she couldn’t reach him, she posted on the wall of a local rowing club asking if anyone could help! So Mike Fleming and another local came to her– and the donkey’s– aid.

Suzanne, Mike, and the man were able to secure a flotation device around the donkey’s neck in order to pull him to safety.

The team of strangers worked together to free the trapped donkey and save his life before he could be swept away in the river!

But the best part of the story isn’t their kindness or the fact this trio was able to save the donkey… it’s the hilarious smile the donkey gave them after he was safe!
