Grandmother Of The Tetons: Grizzly Bear Making Yellowstone History.

Grizzly 399 walks along a rocky area with her two cubs by her side.

From the trees and flora to the curious creatures, national parks have so much to offer its visitors. But when folks think of Grand Teton National Park, many also think of Grizzly 399. This beloved bear is over 27 years old, and she’s earned herself quite the title: Grandmother of the Tetons. That’s because she is known to have a whopping 22 descendants.

In fact, one year, she raised four cubs at once. It’s astonishing for a bear of any age to raise that many cubs at once, but it’s all the more impressive at Grizzly 399’s age. It’s no wonder, then, she’s considered to be the most famous bear in North America.

Each year, it seems as though the Grandmother of the Tetons has had her last little one. But every single year, she proves everyone wrong. Still, with each passing year, this becomes more likely. That’s why, when a couple came across Grizzly 399 and her cub, they were in awe.

Actually, it’d be more accurate to say that they were in awe in hindsight. While at the park, Dicie and her boyfriend were watching the sunset from their car. Then, out of nowhere, a grizzly bear and her cub passed them. This was a special moment in and of itself, of course, but it wasn’t until later that they learned of her significance.

Luckily, they still managed to capture the moment on camera and have since shared it on social media for others to enjoy.

“She continues to defy all odds, and has drawn in photographers and wildlife enthusiasts from across the world to witness history,” Dicie writes. “Little did we know we’d have a front row seat to a once in a lifetime event.”

She’s over 27 years old, has over 22 descendants, and is making history. This is said to be her last possible cub, as its a miracle shes even reproducing still – but thats been said for years and yet she still appears with healthy cubs come every spring. One year she raised 4 cubs!! A bear at any age rasing 4 cubs is mindblowing, and she did it as the oldest grizzly recorded. She continues to defy all odds, and has drawn in photographers and wildlife enthusiasts from across the world to witness history.
