GRAMMY Winning Artist Begs For Chance To Replace Katy Perry On “American Idol”

When Katy Perry announced earlier this year that she would be retiring as a judge on American Idol, audiences had two things on their mind. First of all, sad! Second, who would take her place? Well, we don’t have any answers on that front yet, but there is one star who’s absolutely chomping at the bit. Grammy winner Meghan Trainor is practically begging for a shot to be the show’s next judge!

Appearing on Access Hollywood, the “Made You Look” singer wasn’t shy about expressing her interest in replacing Katy Perry on American Idol. In fact, she told hosts Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover that this would be her “dream job.”

“Please,” she gushed. “I’ve been going everywhere, being like, ‘Hi, American Idol. Please. Choose me to be a coach. Please. Or judge. I will be the best. I will give my whole heart and soul. I promise. Please pick me, choose me, love me. I will do everything.”

It turns out that this singer has a special place in her heart for new talent. Although Meghan Trainor is now a successful, Grammy-winning artist, there was a time when she was scared of the spotlight. She revealed in her interview that she once had an opportunity to audition for The Voice, but she couldn’t work up the courage to do it. So, she’s incredibly supportive of the people who put themselves out there on talent-based competition shows!

“I care so much about new artists, too, especially shows like that, because I was too afraid to ever audition for that,” she said. “So I try to remind them, no matter what level they’re at — if you’re on this show and you auditioned, you win, for being brave enough.”

Meghan Trainor is a favorite, but she’s not the only candidate to replace Katy Perry.

Lopez and Hoover both agreed during the interview that Meghan Trainor would be a perfect fit for the show. There are, apparently, plenty of others in her corner, as well! ET tells us that current judge Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest have both voiced their support.

However, it sounds like Katy Perry has her own candidate in mind for her replacement on American Idol. Last month, the artist said that her choice would be Jason DeFord, also known as Jelly Roll.

“I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show,” Perry said to E! News. “I was convinced at anything he said. He could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything.”

Although we’re sorry to see Katy Perry go, American Idol certainly isn’t hurting for potential replacements. We can’t wait to see who will be sitting in the judge’s chair next season!
