All dogs are good boys and girls, but Toby worked especially hard to earn his title!
When a grandma had been missing for nearly 24 hours, her family feared the worst had happened. She suffers from dementia, and there was no telling where she had wandered off to in the sweltering Florida heat – at one point it was nearly 90 degrees, and with the humidity, every minute counted.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office sent out aviation units, but they couldn’t spot grandma anywhere. Finally, K9 teams were sent out and, within two hours, Toby found her lying on the ground about 250 feet from her house. Although she was severely dehydrated, she was swiftly airlifted to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery!
“If it wouldn’t have been for canine Toby, this call certainly had every element for a tragic ending,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “And it was only because of canine Toby that it ended as well as it did.”
