Yes, Goose has a slight addiction to watermelon. However, his reactions are not confined to the wonderful and juicy watermelon. Goose has a similar response to a whole pineapple. The same applies to an unopened can of dog treats. Let’s not forget the birthday cake that Goose pretended was a cheese roll while he competed in the Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake.
Goose has an extraordinary amount of fun playing with his watermelon toys. He doesn’t always just roll them around, though. Sometimes his dad cuts them up and lets Goose eat the delectable fruit. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), watermelon is an excellent treat for dogs. They do caution that you should remove seeds to prevent intestinal blockage. Also, remove the rind or keep the dog from eating it, as it can upset their stomach.
It is probably a safe bet that most golden retrievers like a surprise, but they don’t act like Goose. When he enjoys his watermelons, he REALLY enjoys his watermelons!
