Earlier this year, we met Santi, a senior golden retriever who has found a new purpose in life: raising chickens. We’re here with an update since Santi has expanded his “duties” around the little cabin in the woods. The first batch of chickens that Santi helped with are raising their own chicken families. Santi is still offering his exemplary nanny services to this next generation.

As the family continues adding new critters to the homestead, Santi is in his element, regardless of the animals’ age or species. He seems to have bonded with all the chickens, from hatchlings to full-grown laying hens.

In addition to chickens, Santi has made friends with ducks, cats, and even two other dogs. If we’re being honest, he only “tolerates” the puppies. They are rescue animals dumped on the property, so they were absorbed into the family. But Santi’s best friend is a cat named Mila. She is also a rescue. Although Mila isn’t fond of anyone else, she likes Santi.

According to the Instagram post, Santi might be lobbying for some goats or a donkey in the future. Please wish him luck in his pursuit. He has adapted to “country life” and his renewed purpose as a barnyard animal whisperer.

If you want to learn more about this family, Santi, and their little cabin in the woods, you can find their story on Instagram. At first, the family wasn’t sure how Santi would react to the move. However, he has made a seamless transition from city life to farm dog life. It was heartwarming to watch his automatic shift into guardian-nanny mode. It seems as if this golden retriever was born to raise chickens!
