Frozen Beauty: Arctic Blast Coats Lake Michigan Lighthouses In Breathtaking Layer Of Ice.

View of one of the Lake Michigan lighthouses that are frozen over.

Winter isn’t everyone’s cup of team, but I think that it’s a magical time of year. Snow and ice can transform areas in the most unexpectedly beautiful ways! A great example of this can be found at Lake Michigan — more specifically, the lighthouses located there. One in particular, called the South Haven Lighthouse, is especially catching everyone’s attention.

Last weekend, a massive snowstorm blew through Michigan. In doing so, it has left behind a marvelous winter wonderland. These frozen lighthouses are especially awe-worthy!

Lake Michigan’s Frozen Lighthouses Transform in Winter

According to MLive, a local media group in Michigan, these natural ice sculptures continue to grow thanks to the waves that hit the pierhead. In doing so, freezing spray coats the lighthouses, creating icicles.

Even the lake itself has undergone a transformation. Much of the water is frozen on top, making the movement of the waves beneath look absolutely hypnotizing.

This isn’t the first time these Lake Michigan lighthouses have frozen over (the above video is from 2022), and it’s certainly not the last time, either. In any case, I don’t think we’ll ever get over just how beautiful this historic area looks every time a winter storm does its magic!
