Chicken has been the go-to fast food item for the last several years. We’ve seen people go crazy over sandwiches, nuggets, wings, and wraps. No matter what your chicken preference, nothing completes the meal quite like the perfect side item. Whether you like fries, mashed potatoes and gravy, or mac and cheese, the side elevates the meal to chicken heaven. But have you ever wondered what your favorite restaurant’s employees love to eat from the menu? Nick Chavez, former KFC Chief Marketing Officer, shared his favorite menu item with Allrecipes, and it may actually surprise you.

Nick Chavez Says The Best KFC Menu Item Is Off The Menu
Sure, Nick has some standard KFC menu favorites, but he finds it difficult to choose.
“It goes without saying that I’m a die-hard fried chicken lover, so of course it is hard to pick just one [favorite],” he said.
Nick settled for the Famous Bowl, which came with mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet corn, nuggets, and cheese.
His second favorite choice isn’t really even on the KFC menu. It’s more of a secret.
“One of my go-to meals is the KFC Classic Chicken Sandwich with a side of coleslaw and Honey BBQ sauce—but here’s the secret, I add the coleslaw and Honey BBQ on the sandwich. It adds the perfect sweet and tangy crunch,” Nick explained.
Since you can’t actually order any sandwich with barbecue sauce or coleslaw, you have to hack this meal yourself. But Nick says it’s totally worth it.
