If you happen to notice an increase in “the presence of military personnel and aircraft” during the span of Jan. 26 to Jan. 31, there’s likely no need to worry. According to an announcement made by the FBI, training exercises are taking place in various locations in upstate New York. The FBI explains that the purpose is to better prepare a number of agencies in the event of a nuclear incident in the United States or overseas.

This info alone may sound alarming. However, this exercise is not in response to anything that is happening at the moment. In fact, these exercises have been conducted twice a year since 2012. Still, some people are likely unaware of this fact. So, if you or someone you know will be in the following areas during this time, please keep this in mind: Albany (including the Albany Airport), Saratoga, Schenectady, and the Stratton Air National Guard Base.

During these exercises, locals may notice “the presence of military personnel and aircraft, and people in protective equipment.” However, a social media post from the FBI emphasizes that residents can rest assured that they are, in fact, safe.

“The training exercise will NOT pose risks to area residents,” their post reads. “Please do not be alarmed by training-related activity.”
