Famed Discount Store is Opening More Than 20 Locations This Summer

Monroe Milstein began Burlington Coat Factory in an old factory in Burlington Township, New Jersey, in 1972. At the time, the business specialized in selling coats, and the name fit perfectly. Burlington Coat Factory took off and continued opening new stores throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The brand diversified its offerings and, in 2009, decided to rebrand. They dropped the ‘coat factory’ name and became Burlington Stores. Now, 17 years later, the business continues to thrive, and Burlington has plans to open dozens of new stores in May 2026.

According to USA Today, Burlington will open 26 stores across 20 states in May. That means good news for customers who love to save in style.

Burlington CEO Michael O’Sullivan shared in a statement to USA Today that the news stores will feature an improved store design.

“Delivering incredible value on brand-name and on-trend merchandise is at the heart of what we do,” he said. “We look forward to giving shoppers the chance to explore great savings, find fresh brands, and experience our new and improved store design no matter where they live.”
