Hollywood is a much bigger world than we probably understand. There are thousands of actors, singers, dancers, and performers making a living in show business. To us, it feels like they all know each other, but in reality, that isn’t always the case. Stars often know of each other long before they ever meet. Oscar-nominated actor Ethan Hawke stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show, and as the pair chatted, he made a pretty fascinating revelation.

“I can’t remember a time in my life when I was not aware of you,” the 55-year-old actor said.
“That’s how I feel about you!” Drew, 51, responded.
Ethan Hawke Wishes He’d Known Drew Barrymore Better
Ethan Hawke got straight to the point and said to Drew Barrymore, “What I can’t believe is that we never dated, you know? I mean…”
“Where were you?” Drew joked. “And by the way, what me and every other girl on the planet wouldn’t have given to date you. Where the Hell were you?”
Ethan went on to explain that he went to plenty of parties in the 1990s hoping to meet Drew, but they never crossed paths. She asked why he didn’t just call her and ask her out, and Ethan said he wanted to play it cool.
“I wanted it to happen organically. I thought, you know, something magic would happen,” he said.
Drew Barrymore laughed and pointed out that Ethan Hawke playing it cool led to a three-decade gap before they even met. Alas, he’s been married since 2008 to wife Ryan Shawhughes Hawke. Maybe in another lifetime Drew and Ethan could have had a perfect marriage and lots of children together. We’ll never know how that fairytale might have ended. For now, they’re happy to be friends.
