Emmy Russell “Flooded With Tears” As She Gushes Gratitude Following “American Idol” Audition

Emmy Russell

Emmy Russell earned a ticket to Hollywood after bringing fans to tears with her emotional American Idol audition, and she’s feeling grateful for everyone who is continuing to support her while she works her way towards the top 10.

The 25-year-old shared a “video of gratitude” with her Instagram followers the morning after her audition aired. In it, she gave a deep and heartfelt thank you.

“Hey, y’all, I just wanted to get on here and say a big thank you this morning,” she began. “I’ve just been, like, flooded with tears how like grateful I am. And honestly, really how humbled.”

“… I don’t know. I’m just feeling super grateful,” Emmy continued. “A lot of gratitude this morning and thank you for every person that’s been so supportive about my American Idol audition and commenting and sharing it, and I’m trying to get back to everybody. It’s gonna take me some time. I have so many thoughts. But I wanted to get on here and just have a video of gratitude. So, thank you.”

Emmy Russell Auditioned For American Idol to “Challenge Herself”

American Idol highlighted Emmy Russell’s audition on Feb. 25. Before singing her original song Skinny, she shared her backstory, which was huge. Emmy is the granddaughter of country music legend Loretta Lynn, and Loretta helped shape Emmy’s budding career.

However, Emmy Russell saw Loretta, or Memaw as she often calls her, from a different perspective.

“She’s one of the biggest country music singers of all time, but to me, she’s just Grandma,” she told the judges.

Emmy went on to admit that she’s struggling to create her own identity in the music world, and doing so gives her some anxiety. So she chose to compete in Season 22 as a way of pushing herself out of her comfort zone.

“I think I am a little timid, and I think it is because I want to own my voice,” she added. “That’s why I want to challenge myself and come out here.”

Watch Emmy Russell’s fight to the top every Sunday on ABC at 8 PM ET.
