Dan + Shay Are Far From “Speechless” When They Hear Their Song On “The Voice”

A two-photo collage. The first shows Ryan Argast singing on "The Voice." The second image shows Dan + Shay standing up as they cheer for Ryan.

There’s a lot of pressure when it comes to choosing the right song for a talent competition. It seems like there’s a balance between staying safe and challenging yourself. Ryan Argast chose the latter with his rendition of Speechless by Dan + Shay. This was a particularly gutsy choice since Dan + Shay are not only coaches this season on The Voice, but because it’s their first time in the role!

But if Ryan felt any nerves, they don’t show. By the time the chorus hits, this bold singer puts his own twist on this classic song, all with the help of his raspy voice. Still, Ryan waits for a single coach to turn around for him for quite a while. In the end, only one chair turns around (or should I say two) — but that’s all he needs. Plus, it’s exactly who he’d hope it would be!

“That was risky, but it paid off,” Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay says. “I knew exactly what I was listening for, and you were the magic we were looking for.”

“The beginning of it was super true to form, super sexy, super R&B, and when that chorus hit you made it your own,” Dan Smyers adds. “I’m going to be thinking about that performance every time we sing that song now.”

To solidify that last statement from Smyers, coach John Legend encourages the the duo to sing a few lines with their latest team member. Together, the three of them transform the song into something even more magical. Hopefully this is only the first time we’ll be seeing them collaborate on a song together this season!
