When 15-year-old Gretta went to the hospital for a sore throat, she found out that her life would be completely different… and that her health was at huge risk.

“It started at summer soccer practices, I just couldn’t keep up with the girls,”Greta told Ellen Degeneres. “I woke up one morning with a really sore throat, so my mom took me to the doctor, thinking, oh, strep throat, worst case mono and the results came back with a leukemia diagnosis.â€
To add on to that, the best case of survival would be a bone marrow transplant – a very painful procedure. But not even Gretta’s sisters were a match. That’s when Danny Danniels came into the picture.
The army veteran was in the system for trying to donate for his friend nearly 10 years before. But when he head Gretta’s story, something struck him to the core. “As soon as I found out she was 15. How can you not give a young person a match?â€
That was 10 years ago… now, at the age of 25, Gretta planned a very special gesture for Danny at her wedding. The duo went onto the Ellen Degeneres show to recap their incredible story.
