Depending on where you live, you may have awesome neighbors or less-than-awesome ones. For Caroline Beckham, it’s the extraordinary kind. Her elderly neighbor left her a caring note on her car recently during inclement weather.

The short note was stuck to her car’s driver’s door window, which was coated in ice. The note politely warned her of the driving conditions. The neighbor, an experienced driver in bad conditions, added some tips on the note to keep Caroline safe.

The neighborly note stated, “This is ice, not snow Little gas and pump brakes Brakes let off use let off test test small steps.” The friend;y note with driving tips for ice was a sweet gesture. It was not only a reminder to pump the brakes to stop on ice, but it also held a more profound message.

The carefully placed note from her neighbor might as well have said, in big, bold print, “I CARE ABOUT YOU.” The grandfatherly advice about driving carefully on the ice is sweet. Finding precious neighbors like this isn’t an everyday occurrence. If you have them, cherish them. Tell them how much you appreciate them.

Caroline frequently offers him homemade baked goods, a perfect way to thank them for being neighborly. Imagine a world where neighbors left each other nice notes and exchanged cookies and banana bread. When an elderly neighbor has trouble shoveling, wouldn’t it be awesome if their neighbor just took care of it?

Our country was like that at one point in history. All the parents on the block kept a watchful eye out. Seniors never had to worry about their yards or shoveling snow. Their neighbors just took care of one another.

Please be neighborly and share.
