Duck Stays Outside During Hail Storm To Bask In The Chaos

Maisie the duck stayed outside during a hail storm.

Maisie is a duck belonging to Trisha Van Buren. She likes rain. When the skies opened up, Maisie stayed in the yard, while the other ducks ran for cover. When the hail storm started, the duck was decided she didn’t feel like going inside, so she did what ducks do: She looked up to the heavens and stretched her neck out to make the smallest target possible.

On several posts, Trish has taken the time to explain Maisie’s quirky behavior. Or should that be quacky behavior? Trish describes Maisie as a chaos duck. The little animal thrives on chaos, loves storms, and will hang outside, stand in the rain every day of the week. She loves it when Trish sprays her with the hose.

If you’re worried about the hail, Trish also discussed that. They live in New York. The actual “storm” only dropped hail for about 90 seconds. The way Maisie positioned herself is what ducks do in the wild to avoid injury during hail. She is fine!

This is for everyone worried about Maisie in the hail storm 😂 I promise she was fine. We live in NY, it lasted maybe 90 seconds. All the other ducks ran to their house, but she chose to stay.

Maisie and her buddies get talkative sometimes. No one knows if her friends are yelling at her for risking her life or congratulating the duck for challenging the hail storm and living through it. She is famous for her efforts and was a feature on the AccuWeather Instagram and TikTok accounts.

Although assuming this position works great for a duck, presenting less of its fragile bill to the storm, please do not try this at home. It does not work well with humans. Facing the storm and turning your face to the sky could make you lose an eye! Maisie isn’t the only crazy duck. This one ran the NYC marathon. Three times!
