What would you do if you noticed a bird sitting on the side of the road? Other than admire the feathered creature, most of us wouldn’t do anything. Luckily, Loressa Beatty knows better. When her and another person spotted a loon, who was all by himself on a dirt road, they immediately knew he was in need of rescue.

No, his wings and legs weren’t broken. On the contrary, there seemed to be nothing wrong with the bird himself. The issue is that loons were not made for land. In order to swim at depths of around 200 feet, their legs are set far back on their bodies. Although this is handy for water life, it’s horrible for land. How he got so far from water in the first place is unclear, but Loressa was determined to get him back home.

As the video above shows, it wasn’t easy for these two to earn the trust of this frightened loon. And, honestly, they never really did. They simply had to cover his face so they could safely transport him back into the water. As nerve-wracking as the process must have been, in the end, their rescue mission was a total success! Check out this loon’s happy ending below.

Loressa’s kindness is garnering her quite some attention online. While some people already knew about the loon’s inability to walk well on land, others had no idea. Now, there are even more people in the world who are equipped to help out a loon in need, should they ever find themselves in a situation like this one.

“The things I made these kids do while they hang out with me,” Loressa writes in a comment. “Lol they learned a lot this year, good kids. Hands on learning is the best way to teach our future generations.”
