If you’re like many music fans, you’ve probably thought about what you’d say if you ever came face-to-face with your favorite musician. Would you ask them about their inspiration? Their process for writing music? Other famous people? Or… would you not even recognize them at all?

Dotan is a 31-year-old singer/songwriter from The Netherlands. He’s used to performing in front of crowds of all sizes, and he seems to pride himself on being accessible and kind to his fans.

So when he found himself seated next to a young woman named Alicia on an airplane, he was delighted to see that she was listening to his album, “7 Layers.” His delight somewhat faded, however, when he realized that Alicia had no clue who he was.
Not even a little clue.

Dotan decided to start a Twitter thread about the experience, and it was pretty funny stuff.

Well, that’s embarrassing. Dotan’s fans were quick to jump in with ideas for how to deal with his clueless seatmate.

Can you imagine reading this on Twitter and realizing, “Oh my word, that is ME he’s talking about?!”

Dotan took the whole exchange in stride and even followed advice from some of his fans… who, we can only assume, were all super jealous of the unsuspecting passenger.

“Home” is one of the biggest hits from Dotan’s album. You know – the very album she’s listening to right at this very moment. Oof.

Just when you think that’s the end of the story, Dotan came back and updated the thread with a very happy ending. Alicia got his note and finally had her “Eureka!” moment! She sent him a very nice email to apologize, too.
