Daniel Radcliffe’s Stunt Double Details Relationship With The Actor: “The Toughest Of Times, He’s Always Been There.”

Daniel Radcliffe and his stunt double for the "Harry Potter" films.

As a stunt double for the “Harry Potter” franchise, David Holmes has always taken the hit for Harry’s actor, Daniel Radcliffe. Recently, the stunt performer shared that he and Radcliffe have each other’s backs in real life, as well! Holmes opened up to IGV Presents about how much his friendship with the actor has meant to him over the years. He also explained how Radcliffe supported him after an accident on set paralyzed him in 2009.

“I was in a hospital at Christmas with a brain drain on my head, and him and his partner come and see me, sat with me for two hours,” said Holmes. “The toughest of times, he’s always been there.”

He also added that the actor’s companionship has meant a great deal to him after his life-altering injury.

“We live in a state in society where there’s an epidemic of loneliness,” Holmes said to the interviewer. “I’m very fortunate enough to not be lonely because I have a lot of love in my life.”

Although the “Harry Potter” days are over for both Radcliffe and his stunt double, the pair have teamed up together on a different project. They’ve recently released a documentary called “The Boy Who Lived,” which tells the story of their relationship on set. It also highlights some of the dangers involved in stunt work.

As Radcliffe explained to EW, there’s more risk to being a double than many people realize. Although the feats are staged, they can still be painful and hazardous!

“There’s a belief that a certain amount of pads or a certain amount of trickery can protect the human body, but no, what you’ve actually got is somebody willing to lay their body on the line for a film,” said Radcliffe.
