This April there’s something even sweeter than anything found inside your Easter basket.
Nurses at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Dallas, Texas have been working for months to create adorable crocheted caps for preemies. The group calls themselves Hooked on Preemies, and they began their work last December with their Christmas cap project.

The Hooked on Preemies project got started when nurses wanted make sure the hospital’s smallest patients and their families had a memorable first Christmas in spite of being stuck in the NICU. Together they created dozens of soft, adorable Santa hats and shared photos on their social media pages for all to enjoy. The pictures were such a hit that they decided to reprise their efforts for Easter.

Each family who has a preemie in the NICU receives a photo of their baby wearing the hand-crocheted bunny ears, which are theirs to keep. Their goal is to make the holiday special for the families while also providing a keepsake that will be cherished for years to come.

The hospital is sharing a photo of one baby bunny on their Facebook page every day until Easter Sunday. So far they’ve gotten a tremendously positive response from people who see the pictures, which is unsurprising considering these “peeps” are so incredibly adorable!

What an absolutely precious idea! We hope other hospitals across the nation see this initiative and start their own programs. It’s a delightful way to draw attention to the sweet infants in the NICU while making wonderful memories for their families during an often stressful time. Well done, nurses!
