Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in remembering the military heroes who’ve sacrificed their lives in recent wars that those who fought and died for the country in wars long-gone are somewhat overlooked.

But the D-Day Darlings are honoring those heroes and keeping their stories alive in one of the most public and amazing ways possible – on “Britain’s Got Talent.” The nine-member group was formed 10 years ago, but just came to national attention in May, with a stirring and tear-worthy rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again.”

When the all-women singing group made it to the finals on BGT, they chose another Vera Lynn classic, “White Cliffs of Dover,” but they had a surprise up their sleeves, and the entire audience was on their feet when it was unveiled.

Red-tinged clouds serve as a poignant backdrop as the women stand in a V, mimicking the formation of warplanes, and begin singing. Halfway through the song, the audience is awash with flickering lights that sway back and forth as the D-Day Darling’s founder, Katie Ashby, leads the group through to the end of the song.

That’s when numerous WWII veterans march onto the stage.

In all, 20 veterans come out to thunderous applause that nearly blows the tiles off the ceiling! The cheers continue so loudly even as the judges are speaking, they practically have to shout! Simon effusively praises their vocals and harmonies, but especially for giving the veterans the “opportunity to stand on this stage and to be appreciated for what they’ve done.”

In comments ahead of the performance, Katie said this was the perfect year to audition for “Britain’s Got Talent,” since 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

To be able to perform this iconic music on such a huge platform in honor of our heroes, including our own grandparents, was incredible. Our mission is to keep the wartime spirit alive and into the new generation.

They’ve certainly accomplished their goal, especially with such a powerful final performance, and even though they didn’t win the season, they did sign a record deal. Their debut album, “I’ll Remember You”will be released on November 9.

Check out the performance that won the season’s Judges’ Vote in the video below, and share to thank all veterans for their service.
