Humble Cowboy Chases Down Bike Thief On Horseback, Lassos Him In Walmart Parking Lot Like True Western Hero

A 9-1-1 operator in Eagle Point, Oregon recently answered what was likely the weirdest call of her career. The call was made by a man named Robert Borba from a Walmart parking lot, after he’d just caught a man stealing a bicycle. “I got him roped and tied to a tree!” Borba told the 911- operator. “What?!” was her incredulous response.

We don’t think anyone could blame her for her disbelief. We’ve shared some stories with you before about crazy 911 calls (like this one about a 5-year-old calling 911 after his dad ran a red light, or this one about two teens who stopped a kidnapping while checking out a cute girl), but this story might just take the cake!

Borba– a 28-year-old rancher– is a true cowboy hero! In the video below, Borba describes leaving Walmart one day and hearing a woman shouting. “‘Stop him! Stop him! He stole my bike! He stole my bike!'” Borba recalls her saying in the video below, “And I just kinda looked around, you know, and all a sudden this guy goes whizzing by my on a bicycle.”

Borba wasted no time springing into action. He quickly hopped on his horse and took off after the thief. With a “couple swings” of his trusty lasso, Borba apprehended the man and tied him up, “just like I would a steer.”

That’s when he made that crazy 911 call.

When police arrived at the Walmart parking lot, the thief was tied to a tree and Borba and his horse were standing watch over him, just like John Wayne in the movies.

“I just figured it was the right thing to do,” said Robert. “If it was my wife or my little girl, I would hope somebody would help her if I wasn’t around.”
