Cops Surround Horse Trapped In The Mud And Offer Him A Helping Hoof.

Every once in a while, we all need a helping hand… or twenty!

A woman was riding her 15-year-old horse near the Pelham Bay Golf Course in the Bronx, New York one Friday afternoon when the horse stepped off the trail onto Orchard Beach. As they clomped through about 3 feet of water and silt, the horse suddenly hit deep mud and began to sink.

The horse’s frightened owner struggled out from under him to escape, but she wasn’t able to get her horse back on his feet. He lay on his side, utterly helpless, so she called police for aid. Fifteen NYPD officers were dispatched from Aviation, Emergency Service, Harbor, Scuba, and Mounted units. They worked together to get the animal onto a rescue glider, then used a pulley system to move him up the pond’s shore.

Later, the NYPD shared video of the teamwork required to move such a large weight. You can hear the crew counting down as they prepare to pull. They really have to fight for every inch!

Once the horse was out of the mud he was able to get back on his feet. Officers then walked him up the rocky slope to dry land, where a veterinarian was waiting to check him out. Both he and his rider were fine, but understandably shaken up by the scary situation.

Seeing videos like this one reminds us that there’s nothing we can’t accomplish when we work together! No weight is too heavy, mountain too high, or mud too deep to thwart good-old-fashioned human ingenuity.
