Skier Caught In Avalanche Flags Down Helicopter Rescuers With One Arm.

skier caught in avalanche waves arm for rescuers

We can only imagine the horror of being stuck up to your neck in snow in the middle of the Swiss Alps.

A young man was ski-hiking in the Lidairdes region of Switzerland when disaster struck. An avalanche swept down the snowy peak, burying the man up to his neck and trapping him there for hours. Thankfully, his head and one arm remained free, and he had told his family where he was going and when to expect him back at home.

When he didn’t return to his car, his worried family contacted authorities. In the video below, we get to tag along with paramedic Mathieu Lambert as he rode in a rescue helicopter searching for the missing skier. Using only a search light, Mathieu and the rest of the sharp-eyed crew managed to spot a tiny arm waving frantically from a sea of white snow below. Once they knew where he was, the team hoisted the man 30-meters (about 98-feet!) to safety.

We’re so impressed that they were able to spot such a tiny speck on the side of a mountain! Watch the video below to see how tiny the hiker’s arm looked from above, and don’t forget to share.
