An incredible photo of a police officer cleaning the feet of a homeless man has gone viral for all the right reasons. A few weeks ago, officers of the Houston Police Department spotted an elderly homeless man struggling on the street. The man, named Quintus is almost 95% blind and can hardly care for himself but luckily Sgt. Steve Wick was there for him.

“We cleaned him up and gave him new clothes,” said Sgt. Steve Wick, who is the officer seen in the photo cutting the man’s toenails. “we tried to get his feet in shape so he could put shoes on. His vision deteriorated to a point where he couldn’t function as well anymore.”
After getting Quintus cleaned up a little bit, Wick took the homeless man to a local “Sobering Center” so that he could get a shower. According to Quintus, it was the first shower he’d had in years.

“Quintus, he was happy to get cleaned up,” Wick recalled. “His whole life he’s been minimally employed, selling the Sunday paper. He’s got glaucoma, so he’s about 95 percent blind. When we found him, he was having difficulty…walking to a thrift shop to pick up new clothes.”
Wick is a 23 year veteran of the HPD and has been a part of their homeless outreach Team since 2011. According to Wick, this sort of work requires a heart for the homeless… and it’s clear this Houston cop has all the love in the world for them.
“Ultimately, that’s what we want for everybody,” Wick said. “Police have gotten a black eye in recent years, or months. It makes people feel like police officers are out there to help, rather than to hurt, and we are.
Just another beautiful reason to back the blue!
