When your work shift is coming to a close, all you want to do is go home – this can be especially true for those on the overnight shift. Officer Andrew Crabb of the Sturgeon Bay Police Department in Wisconsin likely felt this way on June 25 when, suddenly, smoke in the distance caught his eye. Getting closer, he saw that a barn located on a farm was on fire. In an instant, he made his way over to the flames.

When he arrived, he ran across a field before finally reaching the partially engulfed building. Inside were three cows, and they couldn’t get out on their own. The poor things were no doubt terrified as they mooed insistently, hoping that someone would hear them and let them out. Luckily, Andrew found them just in time.
Once Andrew was able to remove the chain keeping them from busting out, as the officer put it, the cows “made a beeline” for the rest of their herd who was in the pasture. Turns out, those three were the only ones in the barn because they are “prone to escape.”
“The officer was able to quickly respond to the fire, entered, and rescued three cows trapped within the fire,” the Sturgeon Bay Police said on Facebook. “Thankfully, everyone was safe!”
In addition to the cows making it out unharmed, an all-volunteer fire brigade was able to swoop in just in time to ensure that most of the barn was saved!
