Cop Responds To Noise Complaint And Joins Jam Session Instead Of Shutting Band Down.

It’s a police officer’s duty to enforce the law. But that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun doing so.

What we often forget about law enforcers is that like us, they’re people, too, with their own interests and feelings. Residents of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, were recently reminded of just that when a local cop responded to a noise complaint in the city.

When Officer Nate Ross arrived on the scene, he saw a musician playing his drum set on the side of the road. The two had a friendly chat about the situation, but rather than just tell the man to keep it down, Ross took over!

“Little did anyone know that Officer Ross used to play the drums back in the day,” the Oklahoma City Police Department wrote on Facebook. “Someone happened to capture Ross sitting down, showing them how it was done.” That’s how the other responding officer found him.

In the video, we see (and hear) Ross jamming away, proving he’s still got it. Passersby stop to watch and record themselves, while passing drivers honk in appreciation. What people initially thought would be a tense encounter turned into the most wholesome example of how relationships between cops and citizens should be. “I firmly believe that the success of our department, in part, is about our interactions with citizens,” Ross explained.

Viewers couldn’t agree more with Ross’s sentiment. Thousands watched the simple yet meaningful video, delighted by Ross’s handling of the situation.

“I could have gone over there, talking down to them, telling them it was too loud and they needed to turn it down,” Ross added. “But this was a lot more fun…it gave me a chance to interact with the people I serve. I got some hugs and handshakes at the end of it all, then they turned it down and left.”

Now that’s what makes a great leader! It just goes to show that friendly and open attitudes go a long way when it comes to keeping the peace. Great job, Officer Ross, and thank you for valuing the connections you make within your community.
