City Employees Search Piles Of Trash To Find Teen’s Memento Of Her Late Dad.

Laura Perez worked hard to find Emily's rings in the trash.

17-year-old Emily Dickerson from Iowa was devastated when she realized she’d lost her ring on a choir trip to Texas. It wasn’t just any piece of jewelry, though. This ring held her late father’s ashes, making it a treasured reminder of his love. After Emily’s choir performed at Six Flags in San Antonio, the group got to wind down at the beach in Corpus Christi. There, she unfortunately lost track of her special keepsake.

Emily had specifically removed her ring so as to not lose it while swimming with her friends. She carefully placed it inside a sandwich box, intending to retrieve it before leaving the beach. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until she was on the bus home that she realized the precious piece of jewelry wasn’t with her. Not only that, but she was also missing several other rings, all of them gifts from loved ones.

“The charter bus wasn’t able to drive all the way back to Corpus Christi to look through some trash,” said Emily, according to KIII TV. She was deeply upset by the loss, especially because she had such a close connection to her father. “I was definitely a Daddy’s girl. I was his princess,” she added.

Emily’s mom, Tina, wasn’t ready to give up hope. She called up Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation and left them a voicemail explaining what had happened. Thankfully, the message reached parks operation supervisor Laura Perez, who was able to track down the specific dumpster that the garbage from the beach would have gone to.

It took a team of city employees hours to search the trash bags in the 4-ton dumpster, but they finally found every one of Emily’s rings, including the one with her father’s ashes inside. When the teen found out that she was getting her jewelry back, she was floored.

“I was in disbelief. I was so shocked that they were so capable,” Emily said. She’s grateful to Laura and her team for going the extra mile to help her out!
