Having a chance to eat as a family can feel like a luxury. As kids get older, their activities increase, and time with their parents and siblings often decreases. We may be able to persuade them to join us for a meal if we sway them with Chick-fil-A nuggets and waffle fries. They hardly ever say no to that. Chick-fil-A has long prioritized family time, and one Maryland franchisee wants customers to make the most of their time at the restaurant, so they’re offering free Icedream. But there is a catch: they have to give up their phones.

Free Chick-fil-A Icedream in exchange for Putting Down the Phone Feels Like a Fair Trade
A Chick-fil-A in Towson, Maryland, advertised the promotion on Facebook.
“Take the Dine-in Cell Phone Coop Challenge at Chick-fil-A Towson Place. Ask a Team Member for a coop, place all phones in the coop, and enjoy your meal together without distractions,” the post reads. “When your table finishes, let a Team Member know, and everyone will receive an Icedream Cone as a reward. Are you up for the challenge?”
The challenge is not company-wide, but at individual participating restaurants. The idea reached X, where people readily embraced it.
“I absolutely love this initiative. It’s a small but powerful way to help us disconnect from our screens and truly reconnect with the people sitting right in front of us. I hope to see more restaurants adopting this kind of policy!” Someone wrote.
“This has never been needed more. Social isolation is at an all time high and family values at an all time low. This alone could solve a lot of depression & suicide,” another person added.
We love this idea. We’d gladly give up our phone for good in-person conversation with our family at Chick-fil-A, and we don’t even need the Icedream. But we’ll take it, of course.
