Labrador Is Adorably Remorseful When Dad Finds She’s Gotten Into The Trash.

charlie gets into trash

Poor Charlie. After a year of clean living, the temptation got to her again and she finally gave in to the impulse.

Charlie’s parents, Bubba and Sam Atkinson returned home a few days ago to let their sweet dog know they had great news: They were taking her for a swim! But when they walked in, they were met with pure mayhem. The dog broke into the trash and had her way with it. Though Dad didn’t film the mess, we’re guessing it was pretty bad. What he did manage to capture is Charlie’s reaction to getting caught. And it’s one for the record books.

Bubba posted the video of his six-year-old dog (who’s “spoiled as much as a dog can be”) on Twitter and it’s gone viral in just a matter of days, racking up thousands of likes and retweets.

If you’re wondering what shot sweet Charlie into internet fame, it’s just how sorry she looks as she ever-so-slowly tip-toes her way over to Dad. She knows she’s in big trouble.

Her droopy eyes and floppy ears make more of a case than any words ever could. How in the world could you punish a pup like this?

When Bubba asks, “Did you get in the trash?” she looks at him with her best puppy-dog eyes. Her sit is even remorseful.

Many called for mercy for poor Charlie. Some believe she was framed and should have had her lawyer present during questioning, while others argued that she showed enough remorse to last a lifetime.

Of course, like any good dog owner, Bubba and Sam couldn’t stay mad at Charlie for long, and she got to go swimming anyway! It’s pretty much her favorite activity, after all.

Once she learned that was internet-famous, and that so many people had jumped to her defense, she figured she’d milk it for all it’s worth.

Bubba wrote, “Charlie is enjoying her viral fame and is celebrating with this stick at the park but [assures] me that her goal is to never change.”

But in all seriousness, it’s a good thing Charlie didn’t get punished. Experts agree that dogs truly do live in the moment, so they’re not going to make the connection between getting punished for digging through the trash or doing their business in the house when those events happened hours earlier, or even just 10 minutes.

The guilty look people attribute to their dogs when they’ve done something wrong is more likely a response to their owner’s body language and tone of voice, not directly connected to whatever they’ve done wrong.

Regardless of her misdeeds and transgressions, Bubba says Charlie is a much-beloved family member.
