Military Kid Blows “The Voice” Judges Away With Powerful Sia Cover.

While nobody is perfect, we’re pretty impressed by Camryn Jordans.

At first glance, it appears the young woman from Adelaide, Australia, has it all. She’s beautiful, has a kind personality, and cares deeply for her family. On top of all that, she’s a talented singer – with a story to tell.

Camryn was born into a military family and moved around quite a bit during her childhood. Her experience attending seven schools in five different states taught her to adapt to new people and situations. One way she connects with others is through music – something she also uses to bring awareness to an issue affecting many service members.

After serving overseas, Camryn’s dad developed post-traumatic stress disorder. “When he first came back, he wasn’t quite who he was before,” she recalled. “There wasn’t that spark in his eye, and he wasn’t, you know, happy.”

Wanting to better understand her struggling dad, she set out to learn more about the disorder. That’s what inspired her to write her original song, “The Stars In Your Eyes.” Everything she earns from the song goes to Soldier On, a nonprofit committed to ending veteran homelessness.

For all these reasons and more, Camryn earned her chance to shine on “The Voice Australia” in 2017. It’s clear in her blind audition video that the then 17-year-old is nervous when she steps onstage. But as soon as she begins Sia’s “Chandelier,” she finds her confidence.

The popular song isn’t the easiest to belt out, but Camryn has the audience cheering mere seconds in because of her raw emotive tones. Judge Kelly Rowland visibly snaps to attention when she hears the juxtaposition between Camryn’s soft and deep notes. And soon after, Camryn’s talent convinces Kelly, Seal, and Delta Goodrem to turn around before the piece is finished.

Seal says he didn’t expected a 17-year-old to deliver such power and confidence. “I feel like you have a voice that deserves to be heard,” he adds. Delta also emphasizes the beauty and texture in Camryn’s voice, but it’s Kelly who sells herself as Camryn’s future coach by promising to help her hammer out her personal style.

While Camryn ultimately didn’t win the competition, she did walk away with valuable knowledge and skills that are sure to help further her musical career. Plus, she made her family – especially her dad – so proud!
