For its July 2020 issue, British Vogue is featuring Narguis Horsford, a London Overground train driver, Rachel Millar, a community midwife at Homerton Hospital, and Anisa Omar, a supermarket worker and business school student. Each of the women, captured by photographer Jamie Hawkesworth, will get their own cover.

“This moment in history required something extra special, a moment of thanks to the new frontline,” Vogue said in a statement. “It is an uplifting tale of kindness and revived community spirit, of people pulling together.”

The article gives readers a peek into the women’s daily lives, from their routines to the struggles they face. They’re all from London, as travel restrictions have limited the editorial team to working in the city, but their stories represent those of essential workers around the world.

“I can think of no more appropriate trio of women to represent the millions of people in the UK who, at the height of the pandemic, in the face of dangers large and small, put on their uniforms and work clothes and went to help people,” said Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful.
