“We were just about to go through the doors,”Julie adds, “and then we heard somebody scream, ‘Does anybody know CPR? Is anybody a doctor’?’â€

The couple looked over towards a bench where they saw a woman, barely breathing with her family crowded around.

“I looked over, and I think my nursing instincts took over,”she recalls, “and I bolted over to the bench to see if she was all right. I started compressions right away. They told me she didn’t have a pulse.â€

As a trauma nurse at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital Julie knew exactly what to do. Wedding dress and all, she worked on the woman until she regained consciousness.

It was a sight to see!

“She was mumbling finally, and she tried to get up,”says the nurse/bride. “And I just kind of like held her hand, and I tried to make sure she didn’t fall.” Gradually, the woman began to regain a sense of her surroundings. Julie and her new husband waited with the woman until an ambulance arrived.

“It really did seem that we were in the right place at the right time,”Julie says.

The result is one of the most interesting rescue stories of the year!
