Having to leave work to handle out-of-the-office business isn’t a rare occurrence. There are some parts of life that only take place during regular working hours, and adults have to do a bit of a balancing act to make it all work. For many of us, people might not even notice if we cut out of work a bit early. But for “Today” weatherman Al Roker, people realized immediately when he walked off the set during the September 28, 2026 broadcast.

Al Roker Had Some Explaining to Do
Co-host Dylan Dryer took over for Al Roker after he left the studio. Savannah Guthrie and Dylan said they were just switching things up a bit. Craig Melvin assured everyone everything was fine with Al. “Al had to step out for just a little bit. He’ll be back tomorrow,” he said.
Of course, that wasn’t enough for the curious minds. Was Al sick? Did he have a family emergency? Where did Al go? He got on Instagram later to give fans an update.
“Well, got out of the “Today” show early because I’ve got jury duty. It’s everybody’s civic duty to do the duty,” he said in a quick video.
In true Al Roker style, he made a silly joke. “I said duty twice!” Then laughed as he stood outside of the courthouse.
Fans loved seeing Al doing regular stuff just like us.
“Imagine someone looking into the Jury pool, and you are there especially on a stormy day,” a fan wrote. “A national treasure.”
Al shared an afternoon update following his time in the courthouse.
“To update you, I got a postponement til December when work is a little less crazy. But I LOVE jury duty. I know I am fortunate that my company pays me while I’m serving in a jury. Not everyone has that luxury. Doing your civic duty should NOT be a hardship,” he shared.
