No matter your age, no one wants to lose their parents. Ben Affleck’s mom and dad passed away very close to each other earlier this year. He’s kept quiet about their deaths since. He recently opened up to Kerry Washington on the “Streets We Grew Up On” podcast.

“My parents just died, both of them, in April and in June,” Ben told Kerry. “It’s sort of a big thing, and it’s caused me to start thinking about my own childhood in ways that has been a little bit different. I’ve certainly learned to even more deeply appreciate my mom and really value and see what she did and what the the sacrifice and commitment that she made, and how complete it was.”
Ben Affleck’s Mom Was Particularly Important to Him
Benn Affleck and his brother, Casey Affleck, lived primarily with their mom, Chris Boldt, after the couple divorced. Chris played such an important role in his life; he and Matt Damon took their mothers as dates to the Academy Awards in 1998. He once told Vanity Fair that having his mom with him for what would become one of the greatest moments in his life is something that he will never forget.
“We were sitting next to our moms, and we won, and we kind of hugged our moms. I remember how everyone had made such a big thing out of it as if this was such a novelty,” Ben said. “I remember thinking, being insecure, like, ‘Why? Why is it weird that we’re bringing our moms?’ Who else do you think we would bring?”
There is nothing a mom takes more pride in than her children. To be along with Ben Affleck for that moment must have been exhilarating for his mom. What a beautiful memory.
