Beauty From Grief: Mom Plants Garden To Honor Beloved Artistic Daughter’s Memory.

Painted rocks from friends and well-wishers decorate the garden.

After losing their teenage daughter in a car accident, a Virginia family is building a backyard garden in her memory. Morgan French, 17, lost her life on her way to school at Liberty Christian Academy three months ago. Her mom, Melinda Segar, decided to create something special to remember her daughter by. Her garden is filled with beautiful flowers and photos of Morgan. Some of the girl’s artwork is also on display in the yard!

“When Morgan passed away, I just wanted to do something to be able to remember her and honor her,” said Melinda, according to WSET. “I thought this might be a nice way to plant some flowers and honor her and make a nice space where I could just come and think about her.”

Melinda added that losing her daughter has been especially painful for her, since the two shared a close relationship.

“It’s been very painful not having her,” she said. “She was definitely my best friend.”

Morgan’s friends from her previous home in Pennsylvania were devastated when they heard the news, so they decided to make their own contribution to her family’s garden by painting rocks in her memory. After sharing their project to social media, they ended up collecting over 100 unique pieces of rock art. Some of them were submitted by people who didn’t know Morgan or her family, but still wanted to help.

“I was surprised even in general how many people commented on it,” said Amy Reichart, mom to Morgan’s best friend. “Then on top of that, complete strangers that wanted to contribute to this.”

Melinda believes that her daughter would love the space that’s being decorated in her honor.

“I know Morgan, she would think it’s so cool to see all the different rocks and paintings,” said Melinda. “She actually loved to paint herself.”
