Beagles Celebrate 1 Yr Of Freedom After 4,000 Were Saved In Massive Rescue Effort.

Four beagles in birthday attire eat their birthday cake together while sitting outside.

A little over a year ago, thousands of beagles were living in some of the worst conditions imaginable at Envigo, a breeding facility in Cumberland County, Virginia – 4,000 to be exact. Here, they were being treated inhumanely, with many of them not receiving the medical care they needed. In addition to breeding the dogs, they’d sell them to labs for experimentation.

Thankfully, with the help of the U.S. Department of Justice and Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, not only were the dogs freed, they were on track to find the kind of homes they deserved, a harrowing story we covered last year. Now, the animal rescue is back with the best kind of update.

Recently, we reached the one-year anniversary of thousands of beagles being freed. To celebrate all of the new, happy lives these precious pups are leading, animal rescuers at the Homeward Trails Animal rescue brought together some of them in order to celebrate their first birthdays!

That’s right, there was a beagle birthday party! And yes, it was just as adorable as you’d imagine! Lots of play time happened when these pups arrived, and there was plenty of cake to go around, too.

Based on the footage from the event, it’s safe to say these adorable beagles had a blast!

Since it had been a year since any of them have seen each other, we can only imagine how nice it was for them to not only reunite but to do so in such happy, healthy conditions.

Plus, seeing them in their cute birthday outfits is the cherry on top of an absolutely marvelous occasion!

“This litter reunited for a day of fun and celebration,” Homeward Trails Animal Rescue said. “Oh, what fun it is to be a Beagle allowed to have a life outside of confinement and torture.”

Seeing these excited little beagles explore the outdoors together truly is such a joy, especially when you consider that, before being rescued, many of them had never even stepped a single paw on grass much less been outside. They’re finally living the kind of lives they deserve, and we couldn’t be happier for them!
