On a wall near Southampton General Hospital’s emergency department is a stunning display of this sentiment. The art is the work of a mysterious England-based street artist named Banksy, who is using his talent to communicate a powerful truth.

The painting, which is called “Game Changer,” is both Banksy’s gift to the hospital and a tribute to the National Health Service. It features a little boy who chooses a nurse over his Batman and Spider-Man toys.
Along with the painting, Southampton General Hospital received a note from the artist. “Thanks for all you’re doing,” it said. “I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it’s only black and white.”
Everyone has been deeply moved by this wonderful act of kindness!

“The fact that Banksy has chosen us to recognize the outstanding contribution everyone in and with the NHS is making, in unprecedented times, is a huge honor,” said Paula Head, CEO of the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
It will be really valued by everyone in the hospital, as people get a moment in their busy lives to pause, reflect, and appreciate this piece of art. It will no doubt also be a massive boost to morale for everyone who works and is cared for at our hospital.
Best of all, “Game Changer” has another purpose! It will be auctioned off in the fall, and all the proceeds will go toward the NHS.
